1970 BGS Series 2A
Hello everybody, just to introduce myself. My name is Paul and I have lived in Latvia for the last 23 years. I have had a series land rover of one sort or another ( 2As) for the last 40 years. At present I have a 1965 series 2A and I recently acquired a 1970 series 2A 24 volt. It was originally in Germany and I was told over at HMVF that is was used by the Federal Border Guards, and is a late series 10. It does however have many fittings associated with a radio, plus a lot of other items which I have no idea what they are. At present it is covered in a strange sandy paint so details are hard to find. I have started to take it all to pieces . However no doubt the puzzles awaiting me will have me asking or possibly begging some kind soul for help. Regards to you all

Hi Paul,
welcome to the forum- if you've got any questions just feel free to ask
If your Landy was used by the German Border Control it has obviously been repainted.
Eventually there're rests of the original paint under the fenders e.g. so remove them and
see if there's any green paint left.

Re: 1970 BGS Series 2A
Hi Christian, Thanks for the rely. The photo is a few years old now and the Land rover is now in pieces, Under all the paint the real colour is revealed which is a dark green RAL 6012,although under that is army green. I think , this was the standard colour for the BGS. My Rover 10 has everything is written in German, all instructions, switches etc. I have looked at the plate under the bonnet there is a number 244 38 801G Type 88P BGS. On the plate on the bulkhead it says 88 Series 2A and a number 244 38801-G. The LR has a military rear crossmember The rear battery box is still there. The LR has twin tanks and is 24 volts I am in the process of rebuilding and at present I am trying to figure out 24 volt wiring with a 90 amp generator. The reason I joined this site was to find other Land rover BGS owners and more about the history. Regards Baltik

H Again, I would just like to say that the late Boris Hepp posted on a number of forums in the UK and I have followed him over the years admiring his fantastic work .Although I will never achieve his level I will try to restore my Landy to the best condition that I can

Re: 1970 BGS Series 2A
Thankyou for your support, I will continue with the rebuild in June, at present we are trying to figure out how to rewire it and complete it as a rolling chassis. I will post more later in June ( I hope).Would it be best to start a thread in the restoration section?

Re: 1970 BGS Series 2A
Hi Paul "Baltik",
at least the Land Rover pictured in your post #1 is what it seems to be. A Land Rover 88 S2a ex-BGS, a former German Border Control one.
Regarding to the front winch, double front bumpers, the double horns, the wheel chock holder and so on.
Boris Hepp (real name) or "heppsen" as in several german and uk forums has been a good friend of mine for at least three decades. Sad to say he passed away too early in 2019.
As one thread about his ex-BGS Land Rover 88 Series 2 has been posted here above, there is also another one - started the story earlier - and also with some more pictures to be found here:

Maybe some of the detailed pics might help to get yours sorted,
Carsten
